Energy Efficiency
Energy Efficiency is using less energy to provide the same service. Replacing an appliance, such as a refrigerator,
clothes washer, computer or printer, with a more energy-efficient one, the new appliance provides the same service, but
uses less energy.
Energy efficiency is not Energy Conservation. Energy conservation is reducing or going without a service to save energy,
such as turning off a light is energy conservation. Replacing an appliance with a more energy saving one is energy
efficiency.
Suggestions On Energy Efficiency
Some suggestions on energy efficiency:
- Replace incandescent and halogen lights with compact florescent lights (CFL) . A 100 Watt equivalent CFL consumes 23 Watts. That's a
77% energy savings! Keep and eye on the new and improving Light Emitting Diodes (LED).
- Buy Energy Star labeled appliances whenever possible.
- Replace pool pumps with energy efficient variable-speed models.
